Welcome to this guide my cuties,

We all have different types of skins, different routines and products we use. Naturally we like having that clear skin with even color all round. Occasionally we don’t use the right products and other factors. Which makes our pores scream and expand!

What is a pore?

A pore is a tiny opening that allows hair to grow. It also secretes sebum everyday to avoid bacteria and other complications.

I would like to address that our skin is not a muscle. What truly happens is, our skin expands due to pore clogging from excess sebum.

How does it happen?

Clogged pores = big pores!
Clean pores = small pores!

Causes: Dry skin, poor cleansing, No UV protection, wrong products, aging and even hormonal issues.

Did you know?
although pores our all over our body we don’t have them in our palms, feet and lips

MYTHS

You can change the size of pores!

No, you can’t – this is due to genetics. What keeps our pores small is collagen and skin elasticity. Pores only seem to be bigger because of clogged sebum. Clear them so they return to their natural size.

Cold water closes pores and hot water opens them!

This is partly true. Our pores can expand and shrink because of temperature. It is a natural skin reaction, but this is only temporary.

If you shower with cold water, your pores may shrink which can prevent dirt to go inside your pores.

If you shower with hot water, it will open your pores temporarily which will give you a chance to clean your clogged pores!

How to gently cleanse our skin for better pore care:

Twice a day, during morning and night. This includes cleanser and toner. After properly cleansed, don’t forget to moisturize.

During nighttime

It is when you want to clean your skin thoroughly. Mostly because that’s when we remove all the excess oils, dirt, sebum, and makeup. Again – use a cleanser, toner, and last but not least, moisturizer.

During the morning

You can follow up with a quick refreshing water splash and gently drying your face. Along with a gentle toner and day serums. You don’t have to  thoroughly wash your face because your skin is already clean. The morning cleanse is only to remove the sweat from your sleep and the dead skin from your pillowcase.

How to avoid big looking strawberry pores?

1.  Eat clean and drink a lot of water just a complete must for clear skin and health in general.

2. Hydrate your skin – pores will secrete more sebum when dry to protect itself. Even if you have oily skin.

3.  Don’t pop your pimples or remove blackheads/whiteheads. No more picking your skin with your fingers because your nails may bring more bacteria. You may even make it worse because the pressure from the squeezing will make the sebum, oils, sweat to blend making a bigger zit.

Try to use a pimple extractor which is a tool that lessens pressure and ensures a proper pore cleansing. Be careful and use it on blackheads/whiteheads that are ready.

4. Exfoliate occasionally. Don’t be someone who never exfoliates or someone who over exfoliates. Try exfoliating your skin once a week.

5. Clean your makeup sponges and brushes. Clean them regularly as they can store bacteria just from being there inside your makeup kit.

6. Pat down to dry your face and do not rub with a towel! When you rub with a towel you may tug your skin and might break the protective barrier and disturb the collagen that your skin needs to generate.

7. Use a gentle toner through the day like rose water or green tea. The mist will keep your face hydrated so it won’t produce extra oil. No more shiny afternoon face!

8. Change your pillowcases more often! When you sleep, we shed hair and dead skin that contain oils. Your pillowcase will store it and you will be sleeping on dirt. Try washing and changing them twice a week.

9. Find the right products for YOUR skin type. Read the back side of your products. Each of us are different and some ingredients may help and others might do more harm.

10. Check yourself with your local dermatologist to learn more about your skin. Unbalance oil production sometimes can be from hormonal issues and that is completely normal

Lastly, and I know most of us are practicing this one, you go to the bathroom and you notice that your skin is shiny with oil, you go ahead and powder it.

This practice is  the worst for your pores because you’re literally layering your face with sweat, dirt, and makeup remains. This can produce breakouts and clogged pores. Try a hydrating mist or patting it down with soft tissue or remove the whole makeup if you can.
