I was a beauty pageant and tv commercial model in the early days. I was used to the cameras. I spent so many years of my life in the modeling world and I honestly always felt that something was missing. As the time went by, just being the face of a new tv commercial, wasn’t challenging anymore. I wanted more than that, but I didn’t know what.
So I took a break and decided to focus only on what I was studying at that time. While studying on my free time, I would film myself with my brother’s iPad. And that’s how I discovered that my passion was not only being in front of the camera, but being the DIRECTOR and producer of my own beauty content. My heart was fulfilled – I had found the best hobby and what was missing in my life!
I was posting my videos on my personal accounts; everything was going smoothly, I was so happy. Then one day my back then-boyfriend said to me he hasn’t seen any girl from our country posting videos on the internet so then why should I do it?
“You look pretty, but people would only watch to laugh at you.”
To which I replied, I don’t want to do what everybody is doing, and one day you will regret what you just said to me. That was the day I decided I wouldn’t spend one more second with someone who wouldn’t support my dreams and passions.
Walking away from anyone who is stopping us from doing what we love is one of the first steps we have to take. Whoever loves you will support your craziest and wildest dreams, and that’s a fact. Just know that friends and even family might not bet on you, especially when you are doing something different from the rest, but your passion for doing what you love will keep you persevering throughout those hard times, and with patience, sacrifice & effort you will succeed.
When I started this journey there were not a lot of people doing this. I was a blogger, and I didn’t even know what I was. There was not such a word to describe my duties as a model, hairstylist, producer, and director of beauty content all at the same time. And honestly guys, I still don’t know which is the best term to describe it, but now it has become my career.
I had to work a lot on my professional growth. Being self- taught is a trial and error process, in my case spending countless hours learning about beauty, practicing, planning strategies when it comes to creating content, and how to professionally use all my gear – from cameras and lighting to editing programs. Then learning to be organized financially in order to be a good businesswoman and trying to make a living doing what you’re passionate about.
Educating yourself requires a lot of compromise, sacrifice and, self-discipline. I know I still have so much to learn and I have a long way to go and I’m very excited for the future and all challenges to come!
