Hi, my hair lovers! <3 Today we will talk about beautiful berets. I know you might be thinking that I’m a pro when it comes to wear a beret and let me tell you guys, I discovered the love for berets when I visited France. I have never worn berets before in my life for real lol.
It is such a nice piece to add to your hair because it makes your whole outfit stand out when you put it on. You just have to learn how to properly wear it and the best part, you can put it on while rocking a cute hairstyle, what’s better than that?
Believe it or not, berets soft brimless cap was not invented in France. Although it has become a huge French icon, it traces back all the way as early Greek island of Crete around 1500 b.c.e.
The beret was the most popular men’s hat during the late middle ages (c. 500–c. 1500 c.e.)
This hat was regarded as a common cheap cloth hat available for everyone no matter it’s social standing. Sheppard’s and townsfolk were using the wool hat to enjoy their warm benefits.
It was until it became a political first war symbol, suddenly exploding into a rebellious and revolutionary look. Several political authorities wore berets to symbolize military uses and headgears to expose their ranks and badges.
In the meantime, let’s give Coco Chanel credit for starting to adopt the hat for females in 1900-1930 since it was part of the men wardrobe only.
Since they were such cheap hats that had some rebellious connotations artists quickly started feeling attracted to them. Several were voicing their opinion in speech, writing and visual arts. Quickly became an underground movement reunion at café and jazz filled scenes through Europe as self-expression liberation.
Through history, different cultures and beliefs rested in this accessory so be sure to wear it with personality to match it! Here are some examples oh how to style them:
